WINTER SEASON

2017

EAST TEXAS REGION

From thick, evergreen forests to beautiful and bountiful forested lakes, East Texas is a diverse and attractive region full of warm welcomes for Winter Texans and visitors who venture there. Noted for its friendly people and down-home hospitality, there's something for just about everybody in this magical region of the Lone Star State.

Texas is a state of diversity, and it shouldn't be surprising to discover the East Texas region is as diverse and different. From the famed Big Thicket Preserve, where the forest and bramble grow so dense that it is nearly impossible to penetrate, even on foot, to the swamps and bayous of Southeast Texas where Nature still commands the landscape in unbridled glory, the region offers plenty of opportunity to getting in touch with the environment.

The region is home to a string of mostly manmade lakes that are so expertly constructed that they appear to blend naturally with the landscape. Lake Sam Rayburn, Toledo Bend Lake - and a dozen others - offer great lake and water activities and some of the best bass fishing in the United States. Anglers travel great distances to participate in the numerous fishing tournaments staged throughout the region and its more popular lakes each year, and there are comfortable and attractive campgrounds and RV parks spread throughout the area, offering plenty of choices where to stay the night or the winter.

Some of the primary and popular communities in the region include Lufkin, Huntsville, Nacadoches, Jasper, Livingston, Conroe, and more.

A major attraction in the region is the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation near Livingston, where visitors can experience Native American life and culture and watch tribal dances.

And water activities abound throughout the region for both passive and active varieties of outdoor sport.

Connect to the diverse East Texas region and discover why so many designate it their travel or winter destination of choice.
