It's been called one of the best kept secrets in Texas, a land full of tropical sunsets and swaying palm trees, where dolphins play along the shoreline and migratory birds from across the continent spend their holidays playing in the mild climates and rich wetlands of the lower coast.

Wildlife and marine life are two other reasons so many are choosing the Texas lower coast as a refuge each winter. From dolphin trips to birding excursions, there's an abundance of things to see and do. And if you happen to enjoy salt water fishing, you won't find it any better than the opportunities offered in the warm gulf waters of the lower Texas coast.

Add to that a rich cultural heritage and a colorful history, and the area is ideal whether for a week excursion, a winter season, or year-round residency.

The principal city of Corpus Christi is a hub of commerce and culture offering all the usual amenities expected from a medium-size community, and smaller coastal towns with names like Port Aransas, Port Mansfield, Port Lavaca, Rockport/Fulton, provide the best in rural offerings with a coastal twist.

If birding is one of your passions, the Coastal Bend offers a diverse choice of bird watching opportunities, from solo walks through the Aransas Wildlife Refuge to charter boat services to view the annual migration of North America's last whooping crane populations.

Long a favorite with Winter Texans are the communities of Rockport and Fulton, offering coastal charm and abundant RV facilities for travelers and seasonal residents. The communities are also noted for their outstanding fishing and offer nature and fishing enthusiasts plenty to do through tour and charter services.

And if you enjoy good seafood, the Coastal Bend is noted for their fine regional cuisine with a number of restaurants that cater specifically to the Winter Texan crowd. Explore all that the Texas Coastal Bend has to offer and connect to the resources you need the most to review the region and what it has to offer. There's plenty to see and do, and plenty of room at the inn.

Nearby Port Aransas offers great live music venues as well as a number of restaurants. A short drive from Corpus Christi, you can choose to visit the Island via the JFK Causeway (South Padre Island Drive) or by traveling through Aransas Pass and taking the 24 hour ferry across to Mustang Island. Either way, a visit to the Island offers many activities from walking the beach in search of seashells, a favorite especially in the winter season, to taking a tour boat, a deep sea fishing charter, a party boat or by participating in a sunset dinner cruise.

Sailing enthusiasts can opt to take sailing lessons or rent a sail boat from the T-Heads at Corpus Christi Marina, or dine in elegance high above the city in one of several hotel restaurants facing the bay front for spectacular views of the beautiful downtown water front.

There are also plenty of wildlife and birding activities and lots of planned winter Texan events all throughout the winter season, making the ?Texas Coastal Bend a prime destination for Winter Texans and visitors year round as well.
